Whoops!!  I intended my last post to send followups to
comp.lang.misc, which is where this particular discussion
belongs.  Please send your followups there.  (If you read
this before you follow-up - which you should!  I never
send a followup until I've read all the relevant messages
first.  That way, I don't end up saying the same thing as
