This has been a long time, so memory is a bit faded, but there was a bug in VMS V4.something that caused these errors. DEC put out a patch for it in either V4.6 or V4.7. So it could be this bug that is biting you. The data IS corrupted, but by software, not hardware. (Or maybe you have some sort of bus error that bypasses the data layer checks.) R.
