I believe you'll find that it's Martin Newell's teapot.  At SIGGRAPH '89
he answered the question: 'Why the Teapot?'  Simply put:  he needed an
interesting (non-convex) object for display and his ceramic teapot
happened to be near-by, looking innocent and decidedly NOT (in)famous.
