When I feel like typing lots of tabs (or 6 spaces), I use Fortran. Seriously, I myself use Fortran when most of the program is computation oriented, i.e. lots of equations, etc. When the program requires lots of string manipulations, or if I need to combine some low-level codes, then I'll use C. It also depends on how comfortable you are with the language. Pointers and dynamic allocations are handy, but they are also screw up your program (or even the machine, like a PC) real good if you are not careful.
