Message-ID: <1697@fallst.UUCP> Date: 24 Jul 90 00:56:48 GMT Followup-To: comp.protocols.nfs Distribution: comp Organization: Fallston, MD Lines: 19 We're placing a large number of PC's on our UNIX-based ethernet lan and are considering both NFS and NOS servers to provide DOS software applications for them. On the one hand, our existing VAXen, Sun's, and upgraded-to-SCO-UNIX/NFS 386's could perform as NFS servers for the PC's, and still provide needed UNIX functionality. On the other, NOS servers can provide all the popular DOS applications. In both cases, TCP/IP will be provided for the PC's, with the 'r' commands available for access to UNIX services, but without NFS in the NOS setup. I would like to have comments on utility, practicability, cost, etc., along with any other remarks you might care to make that might help us make our decisions. (It is possible that the final solution will be a mix of the two architectures.) Thanks. -- UUCP: {rutgers|ames|uunet}!mimsy!woodb!fallst!tkevans INTERNET: tkevans%fallst@wb3ffv.ampr.org Tim Evans 2201 Brookhaven Ct, Fallston, MD 21047
