In other words... if you are executing a shell script that has '<' or '>' in them, you need to redefine the braket characters to '{' and '}' so that the script doesn't confuse them with the shell redirects. I ran into this when I modified several startup scripts that had previously worked, but in the new versions of them, I redirected output to >NIL:.
