I bought an Emerson 2400 baud (external) from a local mail-order/walk-in place for $85. I could probably have found it for less, but I didn't have to pay shipping.... Not only does this have your standard Hayes, non-volatile RAM, dialtone/busy/voice detection, but it's also in an aluminum (NOT PLASTICC!) case. It also has a neat little button that works the same as typing ATH1 or ATH0 (it does the opposite of the current state) on the front. Of course, I don't have MNP 4 or 5, or any of that fancy stuff, but neither does any computer I call, so what use would it be? (One should think, "Sure I have a possible throughput of XXXX baud, but how many systems can I use that with?") I don't think I could have bought a better 2400 baud modem for less than $250. The only better 2400 I've seen was a USR, and we can all guess why I didn't buy THAT one. :-) The fact is, I got a great modem at a great price.... I have to recommend this modem to anyone who wants a simple, _reliable_ 2400 baud modem. I am only affiliated with Emerson in that I am a satified customer... ..greg... ___ Disclaimer: The opinions expressed above are not my own, but AMIGA! //// the property of some higher-up power, to which I am only a tool. //// "Welcome, my son.
