A compiler is a substantial investment, so I want to get it right. There are two major compilers for the Amiga: Aztec C (produced by Manx) and Lattice C (produced by Lattice, owned by SAS). I will certainly get one of these (or perhaps Lattice C++). Manx just produced a new release of Aztec, so my knee-jerk reaction is to go for that. Please E-MAIL comparisons and comments to me (6600dan@ucsbuxa.ucsb.edu). Please DO NOT POST, as it would be repetitive and probably incite flame wars. I will summarize and post in about two or three weeks, as this is a topic of general interest. Please address one or more of the following topics: * Compatibility with A3000 and WB/KS 2.0 * Portability of code to UN*X platforms * Compile speed * Hardware requirements / recommendations (RAM gobblage, disk usage, etc.) * Support for 68030/68020/68881/68882 (is 68882 code different than 68881?) * Reliability (does it crash? when?) * Debugger support * Optimization support * Misc utilities (editors, Arexx stuff, make, lint, version control, etc.) * Libraries: UN*X-type, comm., graphical, sound, user interface, others * Customer support * Ease of use * What about Lattice C++? Does it have everything normal Lattice C has? * Anything else pertinent, especially "I like/hate my compiler because...." -Dan (6600dan@ucsbuxa.ucsb.edu) PS E-MAIL, do not post. This group gets enough traffic.
