I mean that I thought I jump in too, since I have experienced similar problems recently. I have a A2000 with 68000, 3 meg memory and a Rodime 43meg drive, 2090A controller. The previous day I experienced that upon turning on my system, the harddrive just clicked, clicked,.... but, did not spin up as is usual after the first click. The harddisk refused to boot several times, I opened up the Amiga jiggled and pressed connections, then it decided to boot, but I did not notice any obvious problem source. After it started working, I used the system and during a copy command the harddisk had a clicking-fit and shut down, the Amiga system stayed up with no gurun. So I am considering the possibility of lose/bad power wire to the drive? Same fiddle process again yielded good results and it works for now... Sound familiar? No data corruption has occurred yet...
