I bought a 1040ST three years ago with the full knowledge that it would be "obsolete" sooner or later by other people's standards. My friends all have Macs, and I've recieved nothing but criticism from them for buying a "game machine" and all I hear is Mac propoganda and how stupid I was to buy an obsolete machine. I keep pointing out to my friends that a machine isn't obsolete until it can't do what you want it to do-- it doesn't matter (to me) if there is a machine that is faster, a machine with more colors, more pixels/inch, more sounds, better CPU, more companies spewing out software, etc. etc. My computer is used for programming in modula-2, C, and LISP. I do a lot of telecommunicating to the mainframe at my university, and I have two word processors which suit my needs perfectly. Of course, I play games on my computer as well. I could do the exact same thing with a Mac, or an IBM, or an Apple II, for that matter. As long as the computer does all that I want it to, it's not obsolete. My friends feel that a bigger-faster-more-memory-and-graphics-machine makes any machine with lesser abilities totally obsolete, which is an underlying attitude that I feel coming from some people who are complaining about how awful Ataris are. I don't care much about the STe, or any other computer for that matter because I am satisfied with the system that I have and what I can do with it. The moment I am dissatisfied, I'll start looking to buy a new computer..... Well, time to get off this soapbox here. Just wanted to use the 1st amendment to spout off my feelings on this whole matter.... P.S. If anyone wants to sell a mono monotor, drop me a line! Perry Pederson n8742883@unicorn.WWU.EDU
