Message-ID: <4569@latvax8.lat.oz> Date: 26 Jul 90 11:29:41 GMT Organization: VAX Cluster, Computer Centre, La Trobe University Lines: 26 Has anyone rewritten HPWD.MAR in a higher level language (preferably c)? There are two reasons for this - I would like to use it to hash passwords under Unix (I'm trying to make it more secure) and secondly, I'd like to crack passwords more rapidly :-) As part of our regular security checks, we run SYSUAF.DAT through a dictionary and expire all passwords that we guess. Currently on our 8700 it takes about 5 minutes per account, but on an idle RS/6000 it might be a little quicker! If noone has done it, I'll just do it myself, so comments about security are probably not appropriate, although I'd be happy to discuss this via e-mail.
