The documentation is not very clear on whether or not this can be done -- it simply lists some DEC-specific modems all at or under 2400 baud, and the guide for "Installing a modem" is at the level of "Turn on modem. Turn on computer. See lights flash. Good Dick, good!" I envision some sort of RS-232 to "funky shaped phone jack" cable. Is this avail- able, and if so, where would I get one?
