I just bought my hp48. I could still take it back if I had to. First, how do I check to see which version I have? I seem to remember something about that before but I can't find it anywhere in my archives. Second, Which exactly seem to be the offending ROM versions? I get the impression that no one is sure why they are messed up... Any clues? I want a machine that is going to last. I am not interested in working around problems. What's the scoop? And, once again, I have to ask if ANYONE has that Communications program for the 48.. You might be tempted to say "Check hpBBS". NO. That is why I need the damn thing. I do not have a PC so I have NO way to dowload any programs. I have hordes of programs sitting around taking up space in my UNIX account and I can't use them. I'm not such a masochist that I willing to type in a few, 500 line programs. I want to be able to write the programs on my UNIX with a real keybaord and then download it to the 48. Is this unreasonable. I have had a bout 3 people tell me, sure enough the program exists, and was even posted on this group. Don't tell me that NOBODY could see the enormous potential for this.. I have a windows program for the UNIX and I tryed setting up a 22X7 window and plying in it. It is quite useable. Someone mentioned how you might be able to impress someone with the 48. Wouldn't plugging the thing into a modem and calling up your account be impressive. Then how about you download an interesting program and show it off. I might also add that the hacking potential is enormous. I am not a hacker for the most part but I CAN see the potential. Please, don't be afraid, anyone and everyone who has a couple minutes, could you please send me this program. I am not afraid of lots of replies. My mail handler will take care of them. My mail handler gets lonely though when noone mails anything to my account. ;) If you are the exchange kind of person then I will say that I have a few very interesting UNIX programs that I would love to show off. If I had a reasonable way to download stuff I might even spend a little money and explore hpBBS. I do have a terminal and modem, but dowloading to it is Right out. Help me. Thank you. Please mail to frechett@snoopy.colorado.edu If that doesn't work then you can mail here and I will forward. Thank you. Ian Frechett
