Formatting the disk with the built-in BIOS of the controller works fine. After that I try to run FDISK but I get the error message "Fixed disk error". I tried this procedure both with MS-DOS 3.20 and with MS-DOS 3.30. What could be the cause of this problem ?. (Yes, I checked the dip-switches on the controller) (Yes, I bought the disk and the controller in one package, so they should be compatible). Any help is appreciated ! For those of us (unfortunate PS/2 owners) who have to fork over $180 for a joystick adapter, there must be a way to have a mouse (standard microsoft variety) emulate a joystick. Does anyone know of a public-domain/commercial package that accomplishes this? Can I get a joystick adapter for a more acceptable amount? Hi! I have a Packard Bell AXCEL V computer, which comes with VGA on the motherboard. I just today got a multisync monitor, and got it working OK. My question is this: The 16-bit VGA utility disks that came with the computer make reference to switch settings, such as switch 1 for multisync monitors, and switch 4 for 8- or 16-bit data path. There are no switches on the main board, so how do I set these switches? I'd like to change both of them, because I have a multisync monitor, and the VGA is for some reason set for 8-bit operation, even though the computer has a 16-bit bus. Is there a way to set these "switches" via software? The VGA is a Paradise VGA. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Note to non-BITNET subscribers: You can try replying direct to me, but I'm not sure if it will work due to possible bugs in our mailer, so you may want to post to the list instead, or do both if you wish. (I have a 286 with AMI BIOS) To low-level format the drive, I have to first run the controller's formatting routine, which I need to feed '1' for the type of my hard disk, and define cylinders,#of heads, etc. Once done, it reboots, writing the setup. Now, I do a low level formatting, then I run the setup, and re-define the drive as type '47', meaning user-specified parameters, then I can do FDISK and format the drive. It took me forever to figure out what was going on. You may have to do similar tinkering to get yours working. -turgut ------------------------------ End of Info-IBMPC Digest V90 #117 ********************************* -------
