The NEAT chipset allows a system with 1024K to use 384K as either shadow RAM or extended memory. Systems with more than 1024K can only use the 384K as shadow RAM or disable it completely. The 384K is NOT available as extended memory, where extended memory is the technical term for memory above 1 meg and not the general meaning of "extra". The original question was "can you use it for programs"? The answer is in many parts because there are so many types of programs. You can not use it for programs that use extended memory such as MS Windows 3.0. You can use it for BIOS code as shadow RAM and with certain software including but not limited to Quarterdeck's QRAM and RYBS's product (whose name I forget) you can also load device drivers and buffers etc in the shadow RAM area. -- -- Phil Ngai, phil@amd.com {uunet, decwrl, ucbvax}!amdcad!phil We're saving water: we use disposable diapers.
