I wonder if 3.0 and its programs are really workable >with such machines and configurations? >. I have installed Windows 3.0 on a NEAT 286. Initially it would only run in real mode beacause it couldn't find any extended memory. After re-configuring the cmos to exclude any shadowram/expanded etc, leaving standard 640k + 384k extended memory Windows 3.0 runs in standard mode. The speed may not be remarkable (it is 'only' a 16MHz 286) but the memory management of Windows 3.0 is excellent. Running Windows 3.0 in real mode is just a prettier 2.11 but in standard mode it is something more!
