Texas CS Dept., Austin, Texas Lines: 34 this problem was described in the MacLayers Bulletin #1 as follows: 2. The layers multiple window protocol does not work on 7-bit lines. It should, but it doesn't. Since file transfer is macput, it also needs 8 bit. Use 8 bit, no parity. 7-bit gets you an "encode request not received" message. MacLayers Bulletins numbers 1 and 2 were posted both here and in INFO-MAC and are archived on RASCAL.ICS.UTEXAS.EDU in mac/communications/MacLayers INFO-MAC digests are archived on SUMEX of course) the bulletin no. 2 contains a bug fix (as follows) Level: Severe Problem 001: The layers command may fail to properly startup protocol mode or a new layer window requested by the user may stall. Symptoms: After the user issues the layers command the initial shell window appears followed by a "Bad Packet Received" dialog box. After that point further input is ignored until the layers system is terminated with a Control menu selection of "Abort Host Layers". A secondary manifestation of this problem can occur after layers protocol mode has been established and when a new layer window is requested by the user. The window may remain inert until it has been put behind another layer window and then brought back up to front.
