To summarize, I was getting nastygrams from Multifinder about not being able to open any more files. The two solutions I have are: 1) Crank up the number of openable suitcases in Suitcase II's "Power User Settings." Suitcase II refers only to suitcases but it in fact affects the number of files openable. 2) A FCB-altering program shipped to me by Dave Platt. Thank you all for your help.
