In fact, I seem to recall a small hack that does just that: pulls the INIT's icon from the desktop and adds the ShowINIT code with this icon. I think I saw it at either sumex-aim.stanford.edu or rascal.ics.utexas.edu, but I'm afraid I can't remember which...
