Hex x20 is not the only "missing" character, so are all of the others 0x20 thru 0x2B, and 0x73. Of course, this is a math font full of special symbols and there is no reason to suppose that 0x20 should be a space. However, you are right, Mac does make this assumption (I've checked a 12pt version of my font, and character 0x20 does not show up although others do). Obviously the output driver must handle this as a special case. The point I want to make is that presence of characters 0x21-0x2B and 0x73 in smaller point size font shows the problem lies elsewhere. There must be some kind of limitation on character height... this is suggested by the fact that 86pt version of this font is "missing" even more symbols... finally, if Mac is designed to give users flexibility of using all kinds of fonts, hardcoding 0x20 into the operating system as "space" does not seem very smart to me...
