I've written exactly this. It's called XMX (X Protocol Multiplexor). We've used (gradually improving versions of) it here at Brown for 2 years or so in our electronic classroom - a lecture hall with workstations. X-based demonstration programs are run on the the professor's workstation and simultaneously displayed on all the displays in the room. I'm nearly ready to release it. Later this summer, most likely.
