I'm not sure I'd want my X terminal talking a proprietary protocol over the wire. Much better would be a version of SLIP or PTP (point to point protocol, which is replacing slip) with good header compression, and a X specific protocol compressor running over it. 'Cause I'd like to have other IP cognizant devices at home, like my workstation, laser printer, etc, all over the one modem.... Then a seperate TCP port seems like a trivial thing to do... Monopolizing my modem (and even more important, my home phone line) seems like a a terrible lose to me.... - Jim
