This has doubtlessly come up before, but...

We would like to add some sort of record/playback mechanism to X in
order to automate our testing procedures. As I see it, Xlib might be
modified to copy (a subset of) events coming from the server to some
file (record mode), which can later be used to simulate events
(playback mode).

Is this possible? Has it been done? Any alternate ideas?
