Last year, Derryl, I applied for membership in DISK (because I compete
in swimming at Games for the disABLED in British Columbia, Alberta and,
in 1991, Ontario) to keep in touch with my Canadian co-horts.  Like you
said, I found DISK to be very clique-y and inaccessable (unless
part-owner of AT&T) to modem use from the States.  So I have left my
membership lapse and call the local Canadian BBSes when competing in
Canada.  (I have a portable laptop computer and I never leave home
without it.)
