V reached squadron status in March 1941, long after the Battle of Britain, and very few Mk. IIs were used in that battle. The mainstays of Fighter Command were the Spitfire I and Hurricane I, with a few earlier and later aircraft in use. The Spit I had a 1030 hp engine, and used the .303 armament exclusively.
