You might want to read the book "Father, Son & Co." which is a history
of IBM and its first two presidents (Tom Watson Sr. and Jr.), written
by Jr.  Turns out that Tom Watson Jr. was a ne'er-do-well who finally
"found himself" in WW2 aviation.  He flew all over Asia helping our
alliance with the Russians, setting up the route to bring in American
planes through Alaska and Siberia to the front in eastern europe, etc.
