An AP article on 6 July 1990 states that these two ships will not retire
as scheduled, but join the drug war. They will be on active duty at
Mayport Naval Station near Jacksonville, Florida. The decision was
recinded, says U.S. Rep Charles Bennett, D-Fla, because it would have
left the Navy short handed to meet it anti-drug commitments.
