Help!!!

We are trying to compile the Rumelhart & McClennand group of C programs
(Explorations in Parralel Distributed Processing) for use on our VAX.
We not found a missing file "strings.h" ("string.h" is a standard header).
Can anybody help us to find this file? We have tried the authors of the
book directly. No luck.
