Does anyone have a PBM file to Ascii text content filter?  That is,
if I were to scan in a document page as a TIFF raster, is there
a set of filters that I could use to turn this into an ASCII file
of text which I could then use emacs, vi, ed, etc to edit?

P.S.  I attempted to post this to alt.graphics.pixutils, but apparently
the ucbvax.berkeley.edu gateway doesnt know about that group.
