Many thanks to all the people (too many to mention individually) who 
replied to my request about SmallTalk.

There appear to be two versions available (both via anonymous ftp) :-

	GNU SmallTalk which runs under Unix with a X11 interface
	from prep.ai.mit.edu in u/emaxs/smalltalk-1.1.tar.Z

and

	SIMTEL20 which runs under MS-DOS and Unix 
	from wsmr-simtel20.army.mil
