	Has anyone else created whois databases?
Yes: in Europe there is a body called "RIPE" for coordinating
IP networking in Europe. Amongst other things it has collected
information about IP networks, domains, etc.
The information is available via "whois -h NIC.EU.net".

	What machines?
The database resides on a SUN-4/280.
