Supporting promiscuous mode depends on extended functionality - implementing desirable, but not required, functions. We have just released a version of LANWatch that runs over packet drivers, and it took considerable time to establish a reasonable collection of packet drivers that implemented promiscuous mode. I expect that you will be seeing more of them in the future!
