  I would like to read in a 2 text files: One that is "coded" (has
  abbreviations in it) and the other is has the coded words with their
  full words.

  Is there a way that I can create a program so that it will convert
  the coded message to a decoded message?  Maybe I could do it in
  Appleworks using a database and the word processor?
