There would likely be less real estate involved. I have used both the 8051 and 6809 and find them both very useful. I have seen the 8051 run reliably at 16Mhz, and there are many, many spin-off processors in the same family. I found the 8051 a piece of cake to work with. The learning curve is much faster than for the 68000. There are also a variety of speeds available for the 6809, and I have found that Motorola has excellent customer support.
