Thanks to the numerous responses I have received I have learned that
I can set lockScreen and lockMessages to true while I'm going to the
other stack. This method works very nicely (I haven't tested the 
lockMessages yet though.) I still think that there ought to be a way
of getting fields from other stacks without going to them, and if I
figure out a way to do it I while post it here.
