   I'm also interested in graphic files and any way of displaying them
   as my desktop/background for my Mac.  I have copies of gif files,
   but I have a Mac SE with 2 Meg.  Any public domain stuff capable

 If you are using the monitor built into your SE (not an external
one) a good program is called "Backdrop."  It will put a background
picture on your desktop instead of the usual desktop patterns.  BUT,
the pictures must be in Macpaint format.  If you're interested, I'm
pretty sure that Backdrop is available at the Stanford ftp site:

Sumex.stanford.edu
