All of you who already know this, please flame me quietly. I have been printing for awhile using the Mac interface. Today I decided to use lpr. I lpr filename and keep getting this message from atstatus, saying that no printer was selected from Macintosh chooser (or something like that). I go up to chooser and yes I have a file selected and yes printing works from the Mac interface. I then try at_cho_prn and get the same message. Ok, log in as root and choose a printer. Same problems. To make a long story short, the problem was that I did not have a printer choosen in the Overall System Folder. I had one in my local System folder and one in the System folder for root, but not in the GLOBAL system folder. To fix things, I had to disable the root system folder and log back in and then choose a printer and then everything works. I guess that I recommend that you do not create a local system folder for root. Maybe that was stated in the manuals, but I do not remember it. Let the users have local system folders, but keep root on the Global system folder. -- Ned W.
