Even though _The Scientific American_ has upgraded the quality of its 
"Amateur Scientist" column in recent months,  I have heard from a 
very reliable source that they plan to discontinue that column after 
October, 1990, ending a tradition of about 40 years.

If you do not want to see this valuable resource disappear, NOW is the 
time to write to the editors/publishers and register your disapproval!
