Silberman" The legion still exists, M magazine had a recent article (about two years ago) on it with lots of glossy photos. It's been used in Zaire in the 70's, I'm not sure what else more recently. You can probably get more information from the nearest French consulate or embassy. By the way, it probably is illegal for US citizens to join the legion without renouncing their citizenship.
