I have often heard that women are not required to pray
while they are having their periods. I also saw an article
claiming this in soc.culture.pakistan. I have been unable to
find any passage in the Quran that authorizes this "exemption".
I can only conclude that it must be a hadith. Can somebody please
give the references for this hadith and also whether it appears
in Sahih Muslim or Bukhari ?
