The format problem was cured with the Mitsi. drive by setting the SS [soft sector?] jumper. After that it would read 360kb and 1.2mb floppies OK. BUT it doesnt acknowledge the floppy change, ie. gives you the directory of the previous floppy that was in the drive. After more messing around {I love PC's} I rang the dealer I bought the unit from , and he said it was my controller. I rang Epson and they said it was a jumper setting that doesnt clear the buffers after a read, on the floppy drive. Tried all sorts of jumper changes, nothing worked, took the drive back, xchanged it for a TEAC. Now it wont read from 360kb and 1.2mb without changing jumpers back and forth on the drive and still doesnt acknowledge floppy change. Will acknowledge floppy change however if dip switch on front of PC is set to 360kb. Which I guess means that the controller on the motherbd. is looking for some signal from the drive. Epson manual says it should work OK but Epson techo. says not likely, probably only the genuine Epson 1.2mb will work. SO I think I will swap it for a 360KB unit and resume normal life... Still annoys me that I cant get it to work, anyone else got a similar setup?? [E-Mail reply posted at request of original poster, I believe Craig Cooksey]
