We certainly do not want to use the UNIX Shell Command Line restrictions as a requirement for all printed forms of ORAddresses! We also do not want to use the ASN.1 BER encoded form on our business cards either, and that is equivalent to what Mark refers to when he mentions how UNIX Mail (UUCP) actually feeds all Envelope (P1 level) addresses through a UNIX shell on each relay hop. The fact that UNIX Mail (UUCP) is braindamaged on this score should not be a factor in deciding how to print X.400 names and addresses on business cards and letter heads, or in terminal screens when entering them into message composition processes, or when displaying received messages.
