It gets fairly heavy use, and about six months ago when changing the fuser roller cleaning wand, I noticed that what appears to be a (non-stick?) plastic coating on the roller had gotten a scratch all the way around its circumference in one place. The scratch at first made no difference in print quality, but it has been growing gradually wider and now sometimes you can see a line down the page where the scratch is, so I guess its time to do something about it. I called our local HP sales office and they said I'd need a new fusing assembly (part No. RG1-039-00CN). I was told that we must buy the whole assembly and we couldn't buy just the roller. (In case you don't know, the fusing assembly is the part with the green felt door that says "Danger--HOT! Do not touch!" in at least four languages.) I just want to verify that everything I have been told is true before we order the new assembly. In particular, I'd be interested to know if it is possible to just replace the roller (since it's the only part that needs replacing). Also, how hard is it to replace? Naturally the sales rep said I'd better let an "expert" install it but I've fixed electrical and computer equipment before so unless its really a nasty chore I'll probably replace it myself. -- David Barts Pacer Corporation, Bothell, WA davidb@pacer.uucp ...!uunet!pilchuck!pacer!davidb
