Niccum) Newsgroups: comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware Subject: WD-7000 - Worthless? or worse than worthless??? Summary: Do you have a WD-7000? Why is mine so slow? Keywords: SLOW SLOW SLOW Message-ID: <1990Aug6.142746.486@cs.umn.edu> Date: 6 Aug 90 14:27:46 GMT Organization: University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, CSci dept. Lines: 24 I have recently purchase two WD-7000 FASST disk (SCSI) disk controllers. They both run on 25mhz 386 clones. The first controlls a Micropolis 330MB drive, and the second an 80MB Seagate. The performance is absolutely horrible. For example, on th 330Mb Micropolis I have a Turbo Pascan program that used to take ~1 minute to compile. Since putting the WD-7000 on line it now takes > 10 minutes to compile. The WD-7000 comes with a disk speed tester. My system tests out at only 106KBS on serial reads. Their test results on a 6mhz AT show about 4-6 times this performance. What gives? What am I doing wrong? I've posted my question to the WD bulletin board and gotten no response. I'm starting to suspect that I got worked over. Any help will be much appreciated. -Tom -- ============================================================================= | Thomas M.
