The only way to change speeds is through the keyboard. There is a connection from the board to support a display device, which I used to connect to the turbo led and display on my case. It sounds like your turbo switch and light are connected together and not to a remote line. In my situation, I had to make numerous adjustments before I got the display and polarity of the various wires to match the motherboard.
