First, with the system releases, Apple should provide releases of the system software at no charge for bug fixes, etc. I think systems 6.0 - 6.0.5 should fall under this category and from what I understand these releases are free, unless you want the documentation for the system. Now, when new major releases of the system come out (i.e. 6.0, 7.0...), I can understand Apple requesting a manditory upgrade fee. There was a lot of programming that went into these and I suppose their overinflated prices can't pay for everything. ;-> I personally would want manuals to go with these updates anyway. ResEdit... well let me say this: nowhere in any part of program does it claim the software must be purchased or is for exclusive users. With it's mode of distribution, if Apple wanted to note this, there would (should) be a file tagging along with it, or a note in the About... box. I have seen the program (including the new 2.0bx versions) on many BBS's including those which do not have any special permission from Apple (and I assure you these are legitimate boards with no pirated software on them). I have never seen a debate over this issue before, so I would naturally assume copies of the program are legitimate; however, this does not necessarily make it right, of course. I think this debate has gone way overboard (including my post!). I've seen four or five different explainations of how the software is kept track of--or even if it is. If any of those people were right, would we know it?
