I know that Frame uses Sun RPC to implement a form of "hot links" to
communicated data back and forth between applications.

Is there a Sun Standard for implementing this kind of thing?  Can anyone
refer me to it?  In the X11 environment, is it better to use inter client
communication mechansims instead?
