We have an Apple IIGS system with lots of peripherals and an Adaptive Firmware Card. We just started the computer program in August 89. In October, we will be presenting a seminar in Hawaii on using tech. in this type of setting. Needless to say, a year does not make one an expert by any means. I am finding good results with patients with strokes and other neurological disorders. These are not traditional rehab patients - they are the ones for whom "traditional" therapy is not/didnot work. We work on visual perceptual skills (using the Touch Window a lot) and on simple cause and effect. From there, we work towards low tech communication boards and systems. I am also using the computer to "teach" daily living skills...I wish I knew some other OT's in SC who even had a slight interest in technology. Just returned from a conference in Conn. where there were many OTs and PTs with interest in computers. On well, things will change... I am interested in ideas and suggestions of others. One project now is to try to get the nursing home on line so patients and families can take advantage of the support areas. We have a modem, but no $$. Sounds familiar, I'm sure.
