They could leave the issue of routing mail to the MTA, where it should be in the first place. It's not *that* hard to install an MTA that knows to punt unresolved addresses to a "smart" host. That allows you to "#define INTERNET" or perform whatever other magic incantations are necessary to eradicate the unnecessary use of the Path: header in generating email reply addresses. If you're capable of obtaining and installing [bc]news, you're capable of installing one of the many versions of smail.
