Rather, I make that identification on the basis of those verses. Suggesting that I should not name names misses the point, I think. Has the Catholic Church forbidden to marry, commanded abstentions from meats? Is it not often spoken of metonymically as "Rome", which happens to be a city set on seven hills? Has it not historically been mixed up in the affairs of the "kings of the earth"? What is to be made of Paul's recurrent theme of an apostacy from the original simplicity of Christianity? Reasoned objections to my posts on these substantial bases would be welcomed. A simple complaint that my suggestions are offensive accomplishes nothing but complacency. Tom
